The glacier marriages of Gilgit Baltistan are as enchanting as they are advanced. They hold the mystique of ancient epics, yet the magical realism of sci-fi. Glacier marriages, deeply entwined with the culture and folklore of Gilgit Baltistan, grew from the necessity to create artificial glaciers to create water resources, enabling cultivation, and supporting a growing population. Hence the ritual Gang Khswa, a technique through which male and female glaciers are brought together to grow a new glacier.

Despite being the source of prosperity and sustenance to thousands of households in the region, the glacier marriages of Gilgit Baltistan are less known to the outside world.
